Baystate Wing Hospital has received the Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for the treatment of stroke patients, and the Defect-free Care Award from the Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Palmer – (June 29, 2015)    The Audiology and Hearing Improvement Center of Baystate Wing Hospital and Medical Centers recently hosted their 9th Annual Patient Appreciation Breakfast at the Ludlow County Club.

PALMER –(May 18, 2015)  Baystate Wing Hospital is pleased to announce that Samson H Hanka, MD, a board certified Internal Medicine physician, has joined the medical staff and is now accepting new patients at the Monson Medical Center located at 2 Main Street in Monson.  The full team there includes Dr. John Diggs, Dr. Joanna Preibisz, and physician assistant, Lindsey Marchand, in adult medicine; Dr. Lori Trask in pediatrics; and registered dietitian, Christine King.

SPRINGFIELD –  There’s no question that Thanh Tran’s mother would be proud of her daughter if she were here today.

“My mom worked at a nursing home in Springfield. I would see her come home in her nursing scrubs and looked up to her. Then, one day when I was three years old, she gave me a Mickey Mouse doctor’s kit,” said Tran, a registered nurse at Baystate Wing Hospital.

Palmer (March 27, 2015) Dr. Mohammad Abdul Maleque Khan has joined the medical staff at Baystate Wing Hospital. Dr Khan will be accepting new patients for providing primary care services at the Palmer Medical Center.  

Palmer/Ware (March 9, 2015) Baystate Wing Hospital has been named one of the nation’s 2014 "100 SafeCare Hospitals" by the SafeCare Group.  SafeCare Group honors these hospitals based on the Triple Aims of Excellence in healthcare – quality, patient safety and efficiency of care.  The process was comprehensive, with analysis of data from over 4,500 hospitals throughout the United States in more than 30 measures.

The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization composed of employers and big buyers of health care, issued grades for more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals recently, basing each facility's score on 28 safety measures pulled from publicly available reports and a voluntary survey. Area hospitals receiving an "A" grade include St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Milford Regional Medical Center in Milford and Harrington Hospital in Southbridge. 

SPRINGFIELD/PALMER/WARE, August 27th— With the change of Wing Memorial Hospital’s parent company from UMass Memorial Health Care to Baystate Health expected to take place on September 1st, Baystate Health is announcing leadership appointments for its Eastern Region and a new name for the Palmer hospital: Baystate Wing Hospital.

Charles E. Cavagnaro III, MD, FACP, President & CEO of Wing Memorial Hospital and Medical Centers announced that Country Bank has donated $50,000 to support the hospital’s customer service efforts by sponsoring the valet parking service at Wing. The free valet service, which operates Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm, is open to all patients and visitors of the hospital.

Wing Memorial Hospital Offers Free Hearing Services at Local Senior Centers

The Audiology and Hearing Improvement Center (AHIC) of Wing Memorial Hospital and Medical Centers offer free monthly hearing services at our medical centers and local senior centers. The free services are provided by one of the AHIC’s highly experienced audiologists and include hearing screenings, checking for ear wax accumulation, and cleaning and checking hearing aids.

PALMER, MA – November 12, 2013 – Wing Memorial Hospital and Medical Centers was honored with an “A” grade in the Fall 2013 update to the Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group (Leapfrog), an independent industry watchdog.

PALMER, MA - Wing Memorial Hospital and Medical Centers is offering an Early Recovery/Addictions Support Group. This group is open to people struggling with alcohol or drug use.

The group is held every Thursday at 6 pm at the Griswold Behavioral Health Center Conference Room, 40 Wright Street in Palmer.

The support group is facilitated by Lorrie O’Brien, LICSW. Most insurance companies will cover this group and, dependent upon your coverage, there may be a copay. Space is limited and registration is required. For dates, times and registration, call 413-284-5292.

PALMER, MA - Wing Memorial Hospital’s Environmental Services staff has recently reached a very important goal: they have been ranked in the 90th percentile for their patient satisfaction score related to cleanliness of the hospital environment.

In addition to offering thanks to patients for choosing Wing for their Audiology/Hearing aid care, this annual gathering is an opportunity for Wing’s audiology patients to receive updates on the audiology program and to learn more about the wide variety of health care services offered at Wing Memorial Hospital and Medical Centers.

PALMER, MA —Wing Memorial Hospital received the Defect-free Care Award from the Stroke Collaborative Reaching for Excellence (SCORE), a voluntary statewide quality improvement collaborative administered by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), that supports Primary Stroke Service hospitals. Defect-free care is achieved when a patient receives the appropriate care based on clinical guidelines.

PALMER, MA - Wing Memorial Hospital and Medical Centers has successfully implemented Allscripts, an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, at outpatient medical centers in Belchertown, Ludlow, Monson, Palmer and Wilbraham. The Griswold Behavioral Health Center will launch at the end of June.

"Implementing an EHR system has been a significant upgrade and investment for Wing," said Maria Darasz, Vice President of Ambulatory Care at Wing Memorial Hospital and Medical Centers. "By making this change, we have improved the quality of care that is delivered throughout our service area."

PALMER, MA – The Wing Memorial Hospital Auxiliary (WMHA) recently presented $2,500 in scholarships to area high school students.

Each year, the scholarships are financed by the hard work and dedicated fundraising efforts of the members of the Wing Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. These activities include vendor fairs, bake sales, lotto calendar sales and gift shop proceeds.
